Career Prospects

Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV’s) play an essential part in the offshore industry. They operate in environments that are considered to deep and sometimes dangerous for divers.

The industry has become increasingly reliant on ROV’s for a range of tasks to support the complex activities involved in the exploration of oil & gas. Some of these activities include:

  • Underwater construction
  • Inspection of sub sea structures
  • Installation of flowlines and cables

It follows that the ROV is a highly sophisticated piece of equipment which incorporates state of the art electronics and powerful hydraulic systems which must be reliable and capable of operating at great depths.

The operators of such systems must therefore possess a range of unique skills that they can perform in harsh environments for long periods of time on board vessels and instillations. The skills the industry looks for include:

Electrical/Electronics or Hydraulics/Mechanical disciplines: Successful candidates will have at least 2 years experience working in one of these fields.

Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work under pressure: Candidates are expected to work in small teams for long periods of time, typically 12 hour shifts for up to 4 week periods.

Flexability: The candidate must be prepared to travel to any part of the world at short notice.

This is a challenging career but the rewards are there for the taking. These include excellent financial packages, the option to travel, periods of leave unlike conventional onshore jobs.

MTCS Ltd provides services to the leading ROV operating companies and are therefore aware of their recruiting policies. Although we cannot guarantee employment to anyone we will provide invaluable assistance in securing links with potential employers.
