Introduction
This course is designed to meet the requirements for training laid out in the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) and the guidance laid out in the SOLAS Regulations 1974. The Ship Security Officer position has become mandatory on vessels over 500 tonnes. This course covers the MCA / MNTB requirements for both Company & Ships Security Officer.

Who Should Attend and Entry Level
This course is suitable for those employed in the maritime industry seeking to engage in aspects of security, or who are seeking to become employed as a Ship Security Officer (SSO). It is also suitable for security professionals seeking to expand their employability or consultancy skills into the burgeoning maritime security sector. In particular new
entrants to the maritime security sector would be expected to possess this qualification prior to employment or contracting.

• Piracy and hostage actions
• Search planning
• Instructional techniques
• Crowd management
• Security profiling

Assessment
Candidates will be required to pass both written and practical assessments that cover all the subject areas listed above.

Qualification
Successful candidates will achieve an internationally recognised Company & Ship Security Officer certificate, approved by the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA).
