High Voltage Re-certification

Introduction

As you may be aware, many of our clients have personnel who hold a certificate, confirming that they have successfully completed a High Voltage training course. The certificate has a validity period of 3 years resulting in many personnel holding certificate that are due to expire in the near future. MTCS Ltd have now implemented an effective solution whereby candidates can recertify online, and receive a certificate confirming that they have successfully re-validated their training.

Why Recertify ?

Re certification ensures that personnel are continually assessed (on a tri-annual basis)in safety critical activities that relate to maintaining High Voltage equipment. There is always the possibility that an individual may have temporarily left the offshore industry whereby their skills will have lapsed. It would therefore be un- reasonable to assume that they are still fully conversant with all the activities relating to testing and maintaining High Voltage systems.

Who is eligible to re-certify?

In order to be eligible to re-certify personnel must meet the following criteria:

  1. Have completed a High Voltage training course and successfully passed a theoretical assessment within the last 3-5 years. The course may have been classroom based or CD/Flash Drive or Internet based
  2. Actively working in the Offshore industry and involved in isolation and maintenance of High Voltage equipment.
  3. Have the permission of line manager or Supervisor, to re-certify if required

Will this mean all personnel are competent in HV Isolation’s and safe Working Practice?

Taking the on line assessment will not automatically mean that all personnel are “Competent in High Voltage Safe Working Practice”. In order to be competent a candidate must have successfully completed:

  1. An MTCS Ltd. practical assignment that has been assessed offshore by a competent work place assessor (normally completed as part of the distance learning program)
  2. An MTCS Ltd. practical assignment that has been assessed by an MTCS Ltd assessor (normally carried out on classroom based courses)

Personnel who have completed the practical assessment, and were deemed competent, may submit a witness statement, confirming that they continue to comply with:

  • The requirements of IMCA R005,
  • The company safety management system.

Witness statements are available on request from MTCS

Personnel who have not completed a practical assessment may carry this out either at MTCS Ltd. or via their employer, who may use MTCS Ltd. as a training and assessment provider.

How do I complete the on line re-certification?

Re-certification is carried out by logging into the MTCS Ltd website and following the link to High Voltage Re-Certification.

NOTE: We recommend that you dedicate a small amount of time to practising the tutorial questions that accompany each session, on your original CD. OR. Study your course notes from your classroom course and attempt the assignments at the end of each chapter

The process from there is as follows:

MTCS Ltd. will verify your details and send out an access code via email.Note: Access codes can be purchased in bulk by an employer or individually by independent candidates. Access codes cost £85.00 including VAT
  2. On receipt of your access code, you must then enter the ‘recertification site’ where you will be asked to submit your access code. You will then be instructed to complete the multiple choice questions that follow.
  3. You have a period of 60 minutes to complete the exam after which it will time out and a re-validation code must be obtained.
  4. On completion of the questions you will be asked to submit your assessment whereby feedback will be immediately received on your performance. You will receive a message stating either:
    1. You have successfully completed your assessment (Pass mark is 70%)
