About XP Packs
An experienced personnel pack allows you to gather evidence to confirm that you are competent at a specific grade/job discipline at which you work in the offshore industry.
Each grade is found within the MTCS Ltd. competence scheme and is directly linked to the IMCA framework.
On successful completion of the pack you will be issued a certificate of competence and ID card for your specific grade. You are then eligible to work towards the next grade in the Competence framework using the MTCS Ltd. Competence Scheme, or alternatively remain at the grade you currently work at and renew your certification in 3 years time.
Please note that you should only select a competence pack for the grade that you have been working at for at least one year. If you have been working at your current grade for less than one year then you should select the grade below
Competence can be defined as having the following attributes in a particular activity:
- Knowledge of concepts relating to the activity
- Skills to carry out the activity safely, efficiently and in line with industry requirements
- Experience in the activity over a specific time period
The competence packs are designed to allow you to gather evidence to satisfy these criteria and consist of:
Role Specific Assessment Form
This document provides you with guidance on what type of evidence you need to collect to demonstrate competence in your particular discipline. Typical evidence includes maintenance or operational log sheets, or virtually any document that you use as part of your routine work. Remember that all evidence must be signed and dated by your Supervisor/Line manager (see rules of evidence)
The Role specific assessment form also contains 3 underpinning knowledge questions that must be completed and submitted for assessment
Generic Witness Statement
A witness statement is a document that is completed, typically by one of the following persons that you are involved with in your job role:
- Supervisor
- Line Manager
- Offshore Manager
- Project Manager
It confirms that you have been working at a particular grade/job discipline for at least one year and are deemed competent against the IMCA criteria at this grade.
Generic Answer Sheets
The answer sheets are included for you to record your answers either written or electronically. These sheets must be included as part of your evidence submission.
